Customers! Who cares what they think!

An article about the failure of Hollywood, or how disdain for one’s customers is not a route to success. The most amusing factoids —

  • For movies made in 2005, none of the nominees for “Best Picture” grossed more than March of the Penguins, a documentary on aquatic birds.
  • From 1965, the last year of the old Production Code, to 1969, four years later, average weekly movie viewers dropped from 44 million to 17.5 million. In most industries, this kind of customer base collapse would cause some strategy re-thinking.
