Operation Cheese in a Can

Samizdata has blown the lid off of another plot by the Bush Junta®. This one, Operation Cheese in a Can, is aimed at conquering France by first destroying their film industry. But the French are catching on
They [the Americans] always understood that the first way to occupy a country was to impose their films
The key question for the Bush Junta® is
why on the earth the United States (or any other country) would want France, even if handed to them on a plate?

Axis of Weasel stripping the gears

An emergency meeting of EU ministers turns into a Chirac bashing session.
Mr Chirac stood up and, with Gallic passion, began a defence of the French position [...] Then, the normally mild-mannered Bertie Ahern, the taoiseach, interjected and pointed out that the only person getting away with defying the will of the international community was Saddam [...] By this time, Mr Chirac was positively steaming at the pro-American forces reigned against him. But there was more [...]

South Korean president pays off North Korean regime

Story. [source]
The independent counsel investigating a huge transfer of money to North Korea was set to seek an arrest warrant for Lee Keun-young, former chairman of the Financial Supervisory Commission, for breach of trust yesterday.

Lee served as governor of the Korea Development Bank when the state-run organization extended 400 billion won in loans to Hyundai Merchant Marine Co. in June 2000, violating company credit limits.

Of the loans, 223.5 billion won was sent to North Korea after being changed into U.S. currency immediately before the first-inter-Korean summit was held in Pyongyang in the same month.
